    Dr Daragh Naughton is a chartered engineer who holds a BSc in materials engineering. His PhD focused on the bio-compatibility of titanium for nasal reconstructive surgery and implants. He is a Fulbright Scholar in Science and Technology and a visiting Professor to Northeastern University, Boston.  He is also a trained audiologist.

    He has raised significant national and EU funding for research projects in the medtech space and has been working with Audiology Medical Services on research policy surrounding audiology since 2016.

    Audiology Medical Services are currently leading research into the impact of hearing loss (barriers and drivers to hearing aid access) and are also contributing to the development of a novel drug delivery platform specifically predicated upon the independent prescribing model.

    Dr Naughton has published both nationally and internationally.

     

     

    Title: Presbycusis, the clinical importance of early intervention

    Synopsis: This talk summarises the state-of-the-art research in the area of hearing loss and increased risks of neurodegenerative diseases through non-intervention.

    Recent research has ranked hearing loss amongst senior populations as a major contributory factor for the development of conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
