Title: Killing Superbugs – the development of effective non-antibiotic alternatives

Synopsis: In response to the growing problem of antibiotic resistance, and the emergence of superbugs such as MRSA, we have developed a range of non-antibiotic alternatives which are effective at killing all bacteria (including resistant bacteria such as MRSA) but which do not allow them to become resistant to the Westway Health technology. We have an active research programme ongoing at both pre-clinical and clinical trial stage, with products in development with applications in animal health, human health and environmental control. This talk will discuss our development of solutions to tackle antibiotic resistance, in particular our lead product in development, PanaMast(TM) LC, for the treatment of bovine mastitis, a disease which causes losses of ~€2bn in Europe each year. PanaMast(TM) LC aims to revolutionise the way mastitis is managed becoming the worlds first zero withdrawal treatment, allowing farmers to effectively treat mastitis, and unlike current treatments allowing sale of milk both during and immediately following treatment.
